MMA Classes at Our School
At Pure MMA NYC, all of our classes are on mixed martial arts.
Therefore, each class consists of practicing skills within the
three areas of MMA – stand-up, clinch, and ground.
The essence of mixed martial arts lies in its fluid adaptation to
these three rapid and ever-changing areas of hand-to-hand
combat.
Because of this fast and unpredictable blend of fighting ranges,
we feel it's important when training to fuse our striking skills
in with our grappling skills, and vice versa.
For instance, during our boxing and muay thai class, it is not
uncommon for us to add takedowns in with our kick and punch
combinations, or for us to practice other grappling techniques.
In addition to mixing striking with grappling, we also recognize
the importance of focusing on isolation at times.
For instance, there are times when we will spend an entire
class on defending against various punch combinations, or
working on other strictly stand-up fundamentals.
Usually we decide together as a team which techniques
we practice during a class.
Rather than inflicting a rigid, preset routine which may not
be best for everyone, we are flexible by allowing each of
our student's feedback to shape the structure of the class.
